I heard that the ingredient sodium laureth
sulfate, commonly found in hair products, causes cancer. Is this
true?
Since 1998, there has been a
well-circulated e-mail that warned that there was a link between
cancer and sodium laureth (or lauryl) sulfate (SLS). Upon further
investigation, the e-mail was found to be a hoax. In Health
Canada's look into the matter, they have stated that SLS is
safe for use in cosmetics. Other sites, like about.com
have extensively written the e-mail, in the catagory of Rumour and
Urban Legend.
